Achievements
Kottiyoor Grama Panchayat has many achievements to claim. Especially the role played by the Panchayat in decentralized planning and local governance is very significant. The major achievements are as follows.
People's Plan Campaign : - This helped in directly involving the people in the local development activities of the Panchayat as per the plan. It gave the people an opportunity to present their needs and prioritize the development projects through Gram Sabhas and Ward Sabhas.
Infrastructure Development : - The Panchayat has played a major role in developing local infrastructure like roads, drinking water schemes, street lights, bridges, culverts etc. This has been crucial in improving the standard of living of the rural areas.
Welfare Activities :- Welfare activities like social security pensions (old age pension, widow pension, disability pension), housing schemes (such as Life Mission), employment guarantee scheme (MGNREGA) etc. have been brought to the people.
Progress in the education and health sector:- The panchayat plays a major role in the operation and maintenance of family health centres, anganwadis and schools. This helps in improving the quality of health and education at the local level.
Sanitation and waste management:- The panchayat has made great progress in the field of sanitation through the formation of Harithakarma Sena, source-based waste management and removal of waste from public places. Kottiyoor Grama Panchayat has been declared a waste-free panchayat.
Agriculture and animal husbandry:- The panchayat is able to formulate and implement projects at the local level and provide assistance to farmers. This strengthens the rural economy.
Women Empowerment:- Through schemes like Kudumbashree, the Panchayat has been able to make women self-reliant and ensure women's participation in local governance.
Transparency and Accountability:- Through the Right to Information Act and social auditing, it has been possible to ensure greater transparency in Panchayat activities and accountability to the people.
Nature Conservation and Disaster Management:- The Panchayat is leading environmental conservation activities and preparations to deal with natural disasters at the local level.
