Operation Toofan (Operation Toofan - The Narco Hunt)
'Operation Toofan' is a comprehensive anti-drug mission implemented jointly by the Kerala Police, the Home Department, and the Excise Department, with the aim of making Kerala completely drug-free.
The initiative operates by integrating strict legal enforcement actions against drug mafias with public awareness campaigns and rehabilitation efforts.
Key Components:
Toofan Strike: Rigorous inspections and arrests conducted jointly by the Police and Excise departments—in coordination with the Excise Department's 'Operation Thunder'—targeting drug trafficking, sales networks, and mafia kingpins.
Toofan Warriors: A group comprising school and college students as well as Student Police Cadets (SPC), dedicated to raising awareness against drug abuse within campuses and the wider community.
Toofan Care: Counseling, medical treatment, and rehabilitation facilities provided in collaboration with the Health Department—ranging from Primary Health Centers to Medical Colleges—to help those addicted to drugs return to a normal life. 'Toofan' Local/Ward-Level Activities: Ensuring surveillance by forming anti-drug 'Janasena' (people's squads) at the local ward level, with the participation of Local Self-Government Institutions (Gram Panchayats/Municipalities) and Residents' Associations.
