Krishi Bhavan
Krishi Bhavan is the main agricultural institution that works to provide agricultural-related government services directly to farmers in rural areas of Kerala. It functions as a regional office of the State Agriculture Department. There is usually a Krishi Bhavan in each Gram Panchayat.
The main objectives of Krishi Bhavan are to provide technical assistance to farmers, increase agricultural production, disseminate new farming methods and technologies, implement government agricultural schemes, and promote organic farming and environment-friendly farming.
Main services provided by Krishi Bhavan
1. Farmer Registration - Farmers are officially registered and made eligible for various government benefits.
2. Agricultural Subsidies - Subsidies are provided for seeds, fertilizers, farm machinery, irrigation systems, etc.
3. Agricultural Advisory Service - Provides expert advice on crop selection, disease control, pest control, fertilizer application, etc.
4. Distribution of Seeds and Planting Materials - Quality seeds and seedlings are distributed.
5. Organic Farming Promotion - Organic fertilizers, organic pesticides and natural farming methods are promoted.
6. Training Programs - Training classes, seminars and field demos are organized for farmers.
7. Crop Insurance Assistance - Assistance is provided through insurance schemes for crop losses due to natural calamities.
8. Farmers Groups and Padashekhara Samiti - Support is provided for group farming, farmer associations and padashekhara development.
