The history of Kottiyoor, a village in the eastern hills of Kannur district, is also associated with the Malabar migration. Ward 1: Poyyamala 

The first ward, Poyyamala, is the most populous ward in Kottiyoor Panchayat. 1740 people are permanent residents here. There are a total of 871 males and 869 females in the first ward. The number of boys between the ages of 6 and 60 is 63 and 60 are girls. There are 58 boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 12. The male and female population between the ages of 12 and 18 is 64 and 68 respectively. Of the young people of the ward, 156 are males and 162 are females. There are 199 males and 166 females between the ages of 30 and 45. There are 197 men and 207 women living in Poyyamala who are over 45 years of age. The number of men and women over 60 is 134 and 148, respectively. Poyyamala ward is at the forefront of the entire region. Ward 1 is at the forefront of the population, ranging from children under 6 years of age to the elderly over 60 years of age.

Ward 2: Palukachi 

Palukachimala, one of the biggest attractions for those who love travel and trekking, is located in the second ward. People climb the peak of Palukachi mountain to enjoy the evening views from here, which is marked on the district's tourism map. The local legend, which is based on caste and religion, says that the name 'Palukachi' is based on the legends and myths surrounding Shiva and Parvathi and the Kottiyoorambalam

In the second ward, out of a total of 1548 residents, 776 are females and 772 are males, in a ratio of 1005/1000. The number of females over the age of sixty is 45 and the number of males is 115. There are 182 and 176 males respectively between the ages of 45 and 60. There are 141 males between the ages of 30 and 45, while only 139 females are in the second ward. In the list of young people (18-30), there are 162 males and 146 females. There are 10 more males than 55 females between the ages of twelve and eighteen. Their number is 65. There is also a difference of 10 between the ages of 6 and 12. Here, however, the number of girls is more. 57 are boys and 67 are girls. Of the infants, 56 are boys and 42 are girls.

Ward 3: Ottapalav 

The total population of Ottapalav ward is 544 females and 508 males. Of these, 43 are girls and 27 are boys below the age of 6. 90 males and 113 females are in the senior population. In the age group of 6-12, there are 28 boys and 25 girls. In the age group of 12 to 18, the male-female ratio is 44 and 45 respectively, without any significant difference. In the third ward, between the ages of 18 and 30, 97 males and 86 females are in the male-female ratio. There is a slight preponderance of females among those above the age of 30. Out of the 101 females, 97 males. In the remaining age group (45-60), 125 females and 121 males are in the female-male ratio. Ottapalam ward has the highest male-female ratio in Kottiyoor Panchayat. The male-female ratio here is 1071/1000.

Ward 4: Panniyamala 

The sex ratio in Panniyamala is good. The ratio is 1061 females for 1000 males. Panniyamala is a ward with a good sex ratio in the panchayat. The total population is 1317. Of these, 678 are females. If we check the list of elderly people, 138 are females and only 109 males are in the ward. There are 151 and 141 males and females between the ages of 45 and 60 respectively. 136 females and 130 males are between the ages of 30 and 45. The number of young people in the ward is almost the same. Along with 130 young women, there are 125 young men between the ages of 18 and 30 in the fourth ward. Now, coming to the students, there are 41 female students and 38 male students between the ages of 12 and 18. Between the ages of 6 and 12, boys have a slight advantage over girls. While there are 44 girls in Panniyamala, the number of boys there is 54. In terms of infants, there are 38 girls and 42 boys in the ward.

Ward 5: Palchuram

 Palchuram is the easternmost ward in Kottiyoor panchayat, sharing a border with Vayanad. The Palchuram pass, which connects the hilly areas of Kannur with Vayanad, is in this ward. Legend has it that Kottiyoor is a land mentioned in the epics. Legend has it that the myths associated with the epic are related to the name of the ward. The total population of the ward is 1235. Out of which 628 are males and 607 are females. When examining the population of the ward, women outnumber men only in the elderly. There are 81 males and 106 females in the ward. The population between 30 and 45 years of age is more or less equal (129 women and 128 men), which shows that men have an upper hand in all age groups throughout the ward. Among those in the 45-60 age group, there are 126 men and 116 women. The number of young men and women is 116 and 122 respectively. Among the students who are above the age of twelve and below the age of eighteen, we call them the advocates of good hope, 62 are male and 55 are female. Among the children, 50 are boys and 37 are girls.

Ward: 6 Ambayathod

 Ambayathod, the 6th ward of Kottiyoor Panchayat, has 655 males and 619 females among the permanent residents. The male-female ratio in the ward is lower than the average for the entire panchayat. The ward has a population ratio of 945 females per 1,000 males. The ward is most populated by those between the ages of 45 and 60. There are 154 males and 158 females in this category. While there are 119 males between the ages of 30 and 45, there are also 119 young women. While there are 100 females between the ages of 30 and 18, there are slightly more females between the ages of 30 and 45 (122). There is a noticeable shortage of females in the two age groups that are generally classified as students. That is, there are 69 boys and 57 girls among the 12-18 age group. It can be seen that there are 22 more boys than girls among the 6-12 age group. In the said age group, 28 children are female and 50 children are male. Among the elderly above the age of 60, 123 are female. In this category, there are only 117 boys.

Ward 7: Kandapunam 

Kandapunam has a total of 1096 permanent residents. Of these, 553 are female. The ward has a good male-female ratio of 1018. There are 82 children under the age of six in the ward. 42 are boys and 40 are girls. Among the children between the ages of 6 and 12, 48 are boys and 52 are girls. Among the children between the ages of 12 and 18, 38 are females and 47 are boys. Among the young people, 90 are males and 100 are females. Among the children between the ages of 30 and 45, there is a slight preference for females. While 114 are females, 110 are males. 107 males and 115 females are middle-aged. The rest are above 60 years of age. Their population is 94 females and 99 males respectively.

Ward: 8 Mandamcheri 

If we examine the male-female ratio in Mandamcheri, it is below the average for the panchayat. The ratio is 1000/955. It can be seen that there is a significant difference in the number of women compared to men in the youth population of the ward. While 117 people were included in the youth list, the number of women was 39 less. There are only 78 women between the ages of 18-30 in the ward. In ward 8, there are 42 girls below the age of 6 and 39 boys. There is no significant difference between the ages of 12 and 18. While 43 people are female, only 46 are male. In the case of women aged thirty to forty-five, the number of women is ahead of that of men. In the case of those who have entered middle age, there is no significant difference in the number of women and men who have entered old age. A total of 160 people between the ages of 45 and 60 live in Mandamcheri, of which 128 are men and 132 are women. There are 102 women and 93 men above the age of 60 in Mandamcheri.

Ward 9: Kottiyoor 

It is believed that Kottiyoor is the land of Dakshayaga. It is said that the place where the three idols gathered turned into Kottiyoor. Beyond the myths, the land of Kottiyoor also has a history of witnessing legendary struggles. The struggle of farmers against eviction from their land in the 1960s is recorded in history as the Kottiyoor squatter struggle. In the 9th ward of Kottiyoor Grama Panchayat, there are 950 permanent residents with a male-female ratio of 1013. The total population consists of 472 males and 478 females. The number of women in this ward is significantly higher than that of men in those above the age of 60. Where there are 67 males, there are 87 females. It is estimated that 109 men and 105 women are among the middle-aged people. There are 95 women between the ages of 30 and 45, and 93 men. In the population between the ages of 18 and 30, there are 93 men and 81 women in this category. In the lower range, 38 men and 35 women are among the children between the ages of 12 and 18. There is also a slight preponderance of men in the children between the ages of 6 and 12. However, among children under the age of 6, girls outnumber boys. There are 36 girls and only 29 boys.

Ward 10: Nundunokki 

Nundunokki is the ward that includes the main market of Kottiyoor Panchayat. The myths associated with Shiva Parvati gave rise to the name 'Nundunokki'. A total of 1077 people reside in Nundunokki, the tenth ward. Of these, 529 are males and 548 are females. Statistics indicate that the current gender ratio of the panchayat is excellent. The ratio of the ward is 1036 males per 1000 females. If we look at the number of children up to the age of six, there are 24 boys and 28 girls. If we look at the number of students, it seems that 6-18. In this, the gender ratio between six and twelve is 1:1. 31 boys and girls who can be considered up to the same age are included in this age group. Coincidentally, the situation continues in the next age group. Between 12 and 18, 41 people are women. In the new generation, 107 are men and 102 are women. In the population between 45 and 60, there are 148 women and 135 men. Among the elderly, 1046 are women and 93 are men.

Ward 11: Thalakani 

The average male-female ratio of the panchayat is 993. Out of a total of 1120 people, 562 are males. There are 100 males and 111 females in the ward who are above the age of 60. There are 140 males and 131 females in the ward who are past middle age. The male and female population is almost equal between the ages of 30 and 45, which is 99 and 100 respectively. The number of young people between the ages of 18 and 30 is 94 females and 112 males. It can be said that there is relatively no difference in the male and female population between the ages of 12 to 18 and the age of children below 6 years. However, 29 of the children between the ages of 6 and 12 are boys and 42 are girls.

Ward 12: Vengalodi

 The population of Vengalodi ward is 926. Out of which 470 are males and 456 are females. In ward 12, only 43 children are below the age of 6. Out of which 22 are females and 21 are males. In terms of the elderly, 88 are females. The number of males is 80. There are 49 children between the ages of 6 and 12 in the ward, out of which 29 are males. However, among the slightly older children, girls are in the majority. There are 39 girls between the ages of 12 and 18 and 30 boys. Among the youth, men have a higher number of members. While there are only 94 women here, there are 120 male representatives. Among the young people over the age of 30, 87 were male, while 79 were female. Even among those who were past the age of 30, women were more in number. Among the people above the age of 45, there were 114 females and 103 males, with a population-based female ratio of 970.

Ward 13: Chunkakunnu

The Thirteenth ward of Kottiyoor Panchayat is Chunkakunnu. Chunkakunnu is also the ward with the lowest male-female ratio. The ratio is 906 females for every 1000 males, out of a total population of 789, 414 are males and 975 are females. The total number of children below the age of 6 is only 27. This is the lowest figure in Kottiyoor Grama Panchayat. Out of these, 18 are boys and 9 are girls. Among children up to the age of 12, 39 are girls and 30 are boys. There is a significant increase in the number of males among the youth. While 77 people are representatives of the youth in the ward, only 55 are from the women's side. While there were 75 men between the ages of 30 and 45, the number of women was 66. The 13th ward has the highest population between the ages of 45 and 60. It is estimated that 96 women and 90 men are over the age of 45 or under the age of 60. In Chungakkunnu, there are 89 women and the same number of men over the age of 60.

Ward 14: Madathumkadavu 

The total population of Madathumkadavu ward is 1243. Of these, 635 are males and 608 are females. Among the elderly in the ward, 92 are males and 102 are females. 147 males are between the ages of 45 and 60 and 126 are females. There are 143 females and 130 males between the ages of 30 and 45. There are 104 males and 94 females between the ages of 18 and 30 in the ward. Among the students, 47 are males and 45 are females, between the ages of 12 and 18. Of the children in grades 6-12, 62 are boys and the remaining 44 are girls. Finally, among the children below the age of 6, 53 are boys and 54 are girls.
