Right to Information Act 2005
In a democratic system, sovereignty is vested in the people. Therefore, the Right to Information Act is the constitutional right of a citizen to get detailed information on administrative matters. According to this act, any citizen who requests a copy of the documents or information of the local self-government body must be provided within 30 days. In the panchayats, the Public Information Officer is the secretary. This act also provides for an appeal to the Panchayat Assistant Director against the decision of the Information Officer.
