The Kottiyoor Panchayat is implementing measures to apprehend individuals who travel across district and state borders to dump waste in the Kottiyoor Ghat road, forest areas, and riverbanks. Recently, individuals from Thalappuzha in Wayanad district were identified and penalized for dumping waste directly onto the Kottiyoor-Boystown Ghat road; the Kottiyoor Grama Panchayat imposed a fine of ₹5,000 on them. The violation was detected during an inspection conducted by the Panchayat's vigilance squad on August 28, 2026. The inspection team was led by Assistant Secretary Subhash M.G., Health Inspector P. Anitha, elected representative Raveendran Edan, and members of the Haritha Karma Sena. The Panchayat also reported that, over the past month, cases have been registered and fines totaling ₹41,000 collected from individuals engaging in indiscriminate waste dumping or unscientific waste disposal practices. It was observed that the majority of those dumping waste within the Kottiyoor Panchayat limits hailed from other panchayats, districts, and states. The culprits were quickly identified thanks to rigorous inspections by the Panchayat's health wing. Panchayat authorities have warned that strict inspections and stringent actions will continue in the area. The public is encouraged to report instances of careless waste dumping to the Panchayat Secretary at 9496049156.
