A Panchayat is a collective body of elected representatives formed to carry out the administrative functions of the Panchayati Raj institutions. In the case of a Grama Panchayat, it is the main committee responsible for implementing the decisions of the Gram Sabha and managing day-to-day administration.The main components of a Panchayat are as follows:President:The President is the head of the Panchayat. He or she presides over the meetings and supervises the overall functioning of the Panchayat.

History of Grama Panchayat

Kottiyoor Grama Panchayat is situated in Peravoor Block Panchayat under Iritty Taluk of Kannur district. The Panchayat, which falls within the limits of Kottiyoor and Kelakam villages, has an area of 97.58 square kilometres. The boundaries of the Panchayat are: To the north: Kelakam Grama Panchayat and the Karnataka Reserve Forest To the east: Thavinhal Grama Panchayat in Wayanad district To the west: Kelakam Grama Panchayat To the south: the boundary of Wayanad district.
